Born in the UK to Scottish parents, his family emigrated to the US in the early 1970’s, and lived in both Canada and in the Middle East before settling back in Los Angeles.
Laws completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts at the University of California, Santa Cruz and his Master studies in Architecture at the University of California, Los Angeles.
In 1997 he began a formative working relationship with noted Production Designer David Wasco, who mentored him throughout projects as Assistant Art Director and Art Director before supporting him to move on to Production Design his first feature film in 1999.
Since then Laws has served as Production Designer on 24 projects in both Film and Television in 32 cities and 14 countries around the world.
